Hi folks,
Today was the last day of the tournament, and at the same time the last day of working. From 10 am, the team of scorekeepers, who then had no work left, took over our jobs and we had the rest of the day free to relax and watch the finals. From 9 to 10 am all food and bar volunteers had to perform one last shift to make sure all the players would have breakfast. Between 10 and 12 am, the scorekeepers set up the tent at the centre of the tournament plaza in which they sold their snacks, such as burgers and fries. They did this together with the catering, which we helped throughout the week. For the volunteers, there was lunch for free in the buffet-tent, which was then closed for players, coaches and other people. The bar was replaced next to the tent outside, and sold more drinks than ever. During our free afternoon, we watched the finals of the men under 20, where Italy won from Ireland and the final of the women under 20, where Russia and the Netherlands fought for the title of European Youth Ultimate Champion. This title was won by the Netherlands, which means that one of my best friends is an European Champion right now. After the matches, there were the ceremonies. Aside from the gold, silver and bronze medals, the organisation also handed out the spirit awards. These awards were given to the teams who showed the most sportiness and fairness during the games. After each game, the teams gave their points about the opponent on these fields and the country with the most points won the spirit price. Remarkable was that Austria won 3 out of 4 sprit awards. Another title that was given after each match was the one of ‘most valuable player’, where every team had to point out the best player of the opponents team. Often, these players received something from the opponent team. After the finals and the ceremonies was the end of the European Youth Ultimate Championship 2017 for the teams, but not for the volunteers. That night was a party, especially for all the volunteers. This party finished at 3 am, but since there were no shifts that following morning, everyone enjoyed the party!!
Tomorrow will be the last of my days here in Veenendaal. There will be a little HAT-Tourney for the volunteers and after that, the tournament is over.
